Cambridge/Athol- Clarke P. Conway, 90, passed away Monday November 18, 2019 at the Fitchburg Health Care Center in Fitchburg, MA; he is survived by his dear friend Glenn E. Degere of Athol. Clarke was preceded in death by his life-partner of fifty-two years, Dr. Paul Brazeau.
Clarke was born in Bethesda, Maryland on July 18, 1929, son of the late Clarke and Mary (Torbet) Conway.
Clarke attended the Swathmore College in Pennsylvania, earning his Bachelor's degree. After completion of his studies at Swathmore, Clarke earned his Master's degree in arts and teaching from Yale University, and attended post-grad at Yale drama School.
Upon completion of his education, Clarke served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, after which he moved to New York City and began singing at various night clubs. Clarke was the last surviving cast member of the original production of West Side Story.
Clarke worked for the New York City Public Library System as the resident expert of Russian Ballet. Clarke served as the press director for Carnegie Hall for thirty-five years.
