DUDLEY - Colin O. Dalrymple, 85, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, surrounded by his family

He leaves his wife, Nancy A. (Meagher) Dalrymple; three children, Carol A. Kosth of Charlton, MA; Jean A. Sergel of Putnam, CT; and Glenn E. Dalrymple and his wife Lisa of Millbury, MA; five grandchildren: Brian Sergel, Amanda Casey and her husband Paul; Matthew Dalrymple; Zachary Dalrymple and his wife Ashley; and Colin Kosth; four great-grandchildren: Kolbie, Kaydence, Connor and Kylie.

Colin was married to Nancy for 61 years. He was born and raised in Southbridge, MA, the son of the late Edgar "Lee" Dalrymple and Olive (Hands) Dalrymple.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean War.

In his younger years, he worked as a carpenter and part-time auxiliary fireman in the Webster/Dudley area. He later worked at Norton's in Worcester for 28 years, retiring in 1994.  He would often reminisce with his children and grandchildren of his time in the Navy, grateful for his comrades and the opportunity to see the world.  He loved camping and the beaches in Rhode Island, spending many summers there and always would say as we'd get closer, "can you smell the ocean yet?" Sitting around the campfire at night he would recite with great enthusiasm old cowboy songs and stories, to the delight of his children and grandchildren. In his later years, his passion was grocery shopping and going out to eat.  He will be deeply missed by his wife who he could not have lived without, his children who he did and would do anything for, and for his grandchildren, who lit up his life!

There are no calling hours, and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Paralyzed Veterans, New Hampshire. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street Webster, has been entrusted with arrangements.
