Dick worked with us at Stafford Special Tools, running a CNC Bridgeport and many other machines (whatever the job required). He was one of those rare people who could "do or fix anything".

He had a passion for engines and engine design. I think he was 12 years old when he first mounted a motor on a bicycle. He's worked on dozens of motorcycle engines, often making improvements on their design. The last time I saw him, he explained to me how a radial-type engine works.

Years ago, he built a small demonstration model Sterling engine. It's been running continuously since he built it.

I'll remember Dick whenever I think of engines.

All of us at Stafford Special Tools will miss him.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to the Nelson family. There's such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies. I'd like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helped me. Prayer is so valuable at this time, but it's not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor. 4:7 says that God can give us, "... power beyond what is normal ", to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, "... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out ". Jesus was referring to the resurrection; this is our hope that helps us recover and gives us power to go on. 2 Cor. 1:3 describes our Creator as, "... the God of all comfort ". One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May God (Ps. 83:18) grant you peace and comfort now during this time of sorrow.

Dick was an incredibly talented and skilled individual. I was always amazed by the gadgets or machinery he would design and build himself. He could build pretty much anything. My condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in piece Dick.

I offer my deepest sympathy to Dick's family for your loss. Dick was an incredibly talented man.
I had the honor to work with Dick at Anderson Products in Worcester. I promoted Dick to Project Engineer because he designed and built machines for us. He knew more and could do more than most engineers I ever worked with. Ironically, I came to work at EAW, where I heard of this incredibly talented man who used to work here. I later found it was Dick.

Dick left a lasting impression on all that knew him.

May your best memories and close family and friends help you through this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Mike Pervier

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Dick for many years, and value the conversations we had and all he taught me. He was a great combination of an artist, an engineer at heart and a perfectionist who could build or fix pretty much anything. All that said, you could tell his real joy was his family, especially the grandkids! My thoughts are with all of you - he will be missed.

Dick was an incredibly smart and talented person. I always enjoyed discussing and troubleshooting manufacturing and design concepts with him. I am a better person for having him as a mentor. Rest in Peace.
