NORTH GROSVENORDALE, CT – Alexander Jezerski, Sr. of North Grosvenordale, CT passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Sunday, November 10, 2013, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise M. (Beaulieu) Jezerski; his son Alexander Jezerski, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Pomfret, CT and his grandchildren AJ and Lauren (who loved their Papa very much). He also leaves 3 brothers, John Jezerski and Stanley Jezierski, of North Grosvenordale, and Tony Jezerski of Webster, MA; 4 sisters, Wanda Bonczek of North Grosvenordale, Sophie Stolarczyk of Thompson, CT, Stella Mroczek of Thompson and Helen Jerominek of Sherborn, MA; nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Frank and Edward Jezerski and a sister, Esther Rulli.
He was born in Thompson, a son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Szulewski) Jezerski. He attended Tourtellotte Memorial High School and was a lifelong resident of North Grosvenordale. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 on the destroyer USS Mugford and participated in the repatriation of Allied prisoners of war from Japan at the end of the war.
Mr. Jezerski worked for 42 years at Ethan Allen in Dudley, MA, and retired as the foreman of the furniture frame shop in 1992. He dedicated much of his free time to raising poultry, game birds and waterfowl. He also spent many evenings and weekends in his workshop building hundreds of nesting boxes for wild ducks. He was well known throughout New England for his work in the Northeastern Avicultural Society and served on its board of directors for many years. His knowledge and love of birds and animals was seemingly boundless, and he was sought out for his advice by a great many people.
A celebration of his life will be held on the morning of Friday November 15th, with calling hours from 9:00 to 10:30 and a service at 10:30 at Shaw–Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster, MA. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Putnam, CT. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut, 320 Pomfret Street, Putnam, CT 06260.
