Obituary

Andrew C. Hancock, age 86, of Woodstock, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.

He was born in Plymouth, NH in 1922.  He attended Plymouth High School where he was president of his class and co-captain of the football team.  He graduated from Georgetown University and did graduate work at Worcester State and Harvard College.

In the late 1940's and early 50's he taught business admininstration at Bryant College in Rhode Island and Nichols College in Massachusetts.  He went on to become treasurer of The Lanman Co. and comptroller of Webster Spring, Inc.

In the 1960's he returned to teaching at Tantasqua Regional High School in Sturbridge, MA, where he taught history and economics, and organized the Fine Arts Club.  "Andy" was never happier in his professional life than when teaching and leading student field trips to symphonies, operas, and ballets.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church, Southbridge, MA where for many years he served as Treasurer, Vestryman, and sang in the choir.

He devoted his retirement to his family, to opera, and to Woodstock Hill Preserves, his one-man business making home-made jams and marmalades, which he shipped all over the country.  In the 1990's, he helped establish the "Coach Dawson Memorial Scholarship Fund."

Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife Norma, his children, David Hancock of Woodstock, Andrew and Shelly Hancock of Holderness, NH, and Wade Hancock of Hillsborough, NH, his grandchildren, Norma Hancock of Hartford, Kyle Hancock of Rindge, NH, Sarah Hancock of Holderness, David and Lynzie Hancock of Brooklyn, CT, and his great-grandsons, Emmanuel and Chrystopher.

There are no calling hours.  A Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 1:00 pm in the Holy Trinity Church, Hamilton Street, Southbridge.  Musical Prelude at 12:30 pm.  Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster is directing arrangements.
