Arthur H. Gagnon, age 88 of Webster, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the V.A. Hospital in West Roxbury.
His wife, Lorraine A. (Pepka) Gagnon died on September 27, 2004. He leaves two daughters, Marilyn A. Kozielewicz and her husband Edward of Anson, Maine, and Sharlene M. Gagnon of Webster; a sister, Phyllis Hammarlund of Barrington, RI; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Arthur H. Gagnon Jr. of Webster and by his three brothers and three sisters.
He was born in Lynn, MA, son of the late Emile and Matilda (Leblanc) Gagnon. He lived in Webster for the past 43 years and was proud to have grown up in the East Providence, RI area.
Arthur was a World War II, U.S. Navy veteran, and achieved the rank of Pharmacist 3rd Class. He was involved in combat in Okinawa. Arthur retired from Gould & Eberhardt in Webster, having worked as a Quality Inspector. He had previously worked at TRW Rocketry in California and was responsible for test firing several engines that are on the moon. He was a member of the VFW, a former member of the ELKS Lodge in Webster and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He loved to golf and was a member of the retired men's league at Green Hill Golf Course.
The funeral will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster with a Mass at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster. Burial, with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans' Council, will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Webster-Dudley Veterans' Council or the Wounded Warriors Project.
