Worcester- Arthur (Itchy) G. Samar died Sunday, Sept. 6. 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of St. Petersburg, FL and Worcester, MA. He leaves the love of his life, his wife of 68 years, Helen M. (Pappas) Samar. He also leaves a son Paul and his wife Annmarie Samar of Grafton, 2 daughters, Penny and her husband Rick DeLand of Knoxville, TN, and Gayle and her husband Mike Moses of North Port, FL. He also leaves a brother, James Samar of Palmer and his wife Betty, a nephew Jim and nieces Paula and Lisa along with a great nephew and niece; grandchildren Kristina, Kevin, Sean, Robert and Brian and one great grandson, Parker. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Sak of Webster and brother Jack Samar of Manchester,CT.
He was born in Webster son of the late George and Panyiota (Stavrapoulou) Samar and lived in Worcester for the past 25 years. He was a decorated WW II Navy Veteran, who served in the South Pacific. He also served in the Korean War, He was a retired sheet metal worker. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed the Red Sox and was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his "Itchy" jokes.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM in the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster. A Funeral Service will be held Sept. 9, 2015 at 10 AM in the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 35 Lake Parkway, Webster, MA and burial with military honors provided by Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Webster. In lieu of flowers donations in Arthur's memory can be made to the Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton MA.
