Brooklyn - Charles H. Hawes, age 83, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He leaves his wife, Elizabeth A. (Nicola) Hawes, whom he married in 1956. He also leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Sharon Hawes of Brooklyn; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne & Art Grenier of Brooklyn; a brother, Albert Hawes of Moosup; a sister, Evelyn Young of Sterling; two grandchildren, Delaney and Tyler Hawes. Numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 8 brothers and 2 sisters. He was born in Sterling, CT, son of the late William and Leonie (Raulet) Hawes and lived in Brooklyn most of his life. He was a retired Supervisor of Construction for numerous area construction companies. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He was a member of the Wauregan VFW. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 11:00 am at the United Protestant Church, 47 Church Street, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family, Elizabeth Hawes, 172 Brown Road, Brooklyn, CT 06234 as they will be distributed between the United Protestant Church and Hospice.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all Doctors, Nurses & Hospice that help with his courageous battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
