Donald A. Wayman, age 95, of Webster, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Donald was predeceased by his wife Teresa (Drake) in 2010. He leaves three children, Donald P. Wayman (Donna), Jane Horstman (Paul) and Paula Mayville, all of Dudley; six grandchildren, Scott Blackwood (Meghan) of Charlton, Jenna Blackwood of Putnam, Amy Wayman of Worcester, Sarah D’Ascoli (Chris) of Colorado, Virginia Mayville of North Carolina and Hunter Mayville of Dudley; four great-grandchildren, Callum, Eden, Dylan and Sage.

Donald was a lifelong resident of Webster and spent his entire academic career at St. Louis School where he proudly donned the satin uniform of the Cavaliers on the basketball court. After which, Donald joined the U.S. Navy as a radio operator during the Korean War. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 3 stars and the United Nations Navy Occupation Medal. He served aboard the U.S.S. E.G. Small and worked diligently to ensure his five shipmates lost at sea were remembered at the punchbowl in Hawaii. After his discharge, he worked in several of the mills in Webster he was employed by Deary Brothers delivering milk and making lifelong friends. He would soon be hired by the USPS in Webster where he delivered mail in the neighborhood of the North Village where he had grown up and was forever remembered as “Don the Mailman”. He was known for hosting retiree roasts at the Colonial Club and at the end of which he gifted each retiree with a hand drawn personalized caricature.

In retirement his full-time activity was commitment to veteran’s including visits to Holyoke Solider’s Home, the restoration of the Church Street Veteran’s home, designing the towns Korean War Monument. He was active and traveled to national organizations including the Tin Can Sailors, the Chosin Few and his own ship’s reunions. He served on the Memorial Day and Veterans Day committees and marched in the parades for decades. He interviewed the Grand Marshalls for the parades, and his interviews were published up until a couple years ago.

At his death, he was one of the few remaining original “Brian Acres” homeowners in Webster. He cultivated his pristine grounds with blooms in every season. He took great pride in creating a home that fostered Sunday dinners where adults discussed their week and his grandchildren learned to swim.

Donald’s family would like to thank his wonderful neighbors who took the time to chat with him, shared their children with him, kept an eye on him and made his life so much richer. You were his guardian angels on earth.
