Edna L
(Paranto) Vogel
Oct 4, 1931 — Mar 20, 2021
Pomfret Center/Fabyan, CT - Edna Vogel passed peacefully on March 20, 2021 at UMass from complications of a failing heart.
Edna is now joyfully reunited with her family; her husband of 57 years, Arthur (1921-2013) and her only son, Arthur James "AJ" (1960-2018).
Born in Webster, MA, on October 4, 1931, Edna was the third child of Arthur & Anna Paranto. She married Arthur Vogel in 1956 and lived in Fabyan, CT for 52 years. Throughout her life, she worked at Bates Shoe, Hamilton Standard, Putnam Hertzl and Commerce Insurance until her retirement in 1993. Her most fulfilling position, however, was as a Teacher's Aide at Thompson Middle School.
Edna is also predeceased by her brother Arthur (Sonny) from Swedesboro, NJ and sister Eleanor Bell from Niles, MI. She also leaves many wonderful and involved nieces and nephews.
Edna was most proud of her beloved grandchildren, her heart and joy were Trevor Vogel of Warrenton, VA and Stephanie Vogel of Dayville, CT. Her own heart may have expired but her legacy and lessons will live forever in theirs.
Edna was a woman of great faith, great strength and true character; she lived an honorable and genuine life. She said 'please' and 'thank you" to Alexa. She remained close with Art's Speech Therapist from 7 years earlier, saving Happy Meal toys for when she and her son would visit. Recent photos of children and grandchildren of friends and family proudly adorned her walls and the more than 50 Christmas cards that were displayed in her apartment each year were a testament to how loved she was.
They say it, "takes a village" to raise a child. Edna's community of friends and supporters have demonstrated that it also takes a village to care for our cherished elderly, especially during this pandemic. Edna was fortunate to spend her final years comfortably at Seely-Brown where she reconnected with Dottie, a friend from her youth, and enjoyed the company of new friends. She was truly blessed to have many years of the friendship and support of three very dear friends; daughter-in-law, Denise Harkins: niece but-not-really, JoAnn Slota and 'adopted daughter', Sue Hill.
Kindly omit flowers, please instead send donations in her memory to her beloved Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church P. O. Box 713 Webster, MA 01570. The family wishes to thank Fr. Luke Veronis for his loving spiritual care over the years and in her final moments.
Edna's calling hours will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Thursday, March 25, 2021 followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 37 Lake Parkway, Webster followed by burial next to her beloved Arthur in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home is honored to have been entrusted with Edna's funeral arrangements.
