Edward S. Babula, age 87, of Thompson, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at home.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Lena D. (Iwanicki) Babula of Thompson; a daughter, Nancy Thomas and her husband David of Vernon, CT; four grandchildren, Adam Thomas and his wife Cyndi, Timothy Thomas and his wife Shauna, Nicole Thomas and Zachary Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Thomas and Tyler Thomas.  He was predeceased by a son, Paul Babula and by two brothers, William and John Babula.

Eddie was born in Thompson, son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Gac) Babula and lived in Thompson all his life.

Ed was a life-long farmer and enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  He was a bus driver for many years in Thompson, served as a First and Second Selectman in Thompson, and worked for several years for the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home.  Additionally, Ed was a former member of the Thompson Fire Department.  He was a parishioner and usher at Saint Joseph Basilica, Webster.  He enjoyed playing bocce ball with his family.

The funeral will be held from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster, on Monday, March 24, 2014, with a Mass at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster.  Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery.  Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, March 23rd from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Joseph Basilica.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com.
