Obituary

Webster - Ernest D. "Big E" Pizzetti, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 29 th in Webster, MA.  He was 91 years old.

Ernie was born to August & Louise Pizzetti on April 29, 1921 in Webster, MA.  He married Esther Hejwosz on November 22, 1947 and they were married 62 years until her death in 2009.

He is survived by daughter Deborah and her husband Al Giovanni of Pomfret, CT, a son Michael and his wife Joy Pizzetti of Pomfret Ctr., CT, and daughter Dina Hickey of Woodstock, CT. Also one brother Edward Pizzetti of Oxford,MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher & Zachary Britt, Nicholas Giovanni, Rachael & Brian Hickey and great grandchildren Elysse & Sawyer Britt.

"Big E" had many accomplishments in life but he was happiest being a dad and a Pop Pop. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and served on the Yorktown. He attended the Bill McGowan umpire school and umpired minor league baseball until becoming a scout for the Washington Senators and a short stay with the NY Yankees. He later scouted for the Minnesota Twins and turned his attention to golf becoming one of the first golf salesmen later becoming regional territory manager for several major golf and sporting goods companies. He was awarded salesman of the year many times from his companies and the New England PGA.

Ernie was instrumental in organizing the Webster Little League and Babe Ruth leagues as well as the Webster/Dudley Boy's & Girl'sClub.  He also organized and ran many Pro-Am fund raising golf tournaments throughout New England.  A lifetime member of St. Louis Church he helped with the church festivals and fund raising.

An avid golfer and sports figure he was honored for his achievements at a dinner with Senator Ted Kennedy several years ago. He will always be remembered as "The Big E." Calling hours will be Thursday July 5 th from 8:00 AM to 9:45 at the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home at 48 School Street in Webster, MA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Louis Church on Lake Street in Webster, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Webster-Dudley Boys & Girls Club, 55 Oxford Avenue Dudley, MA 01571.
