Evelyn U. (Brothers) Christian, age 94, of Oxford, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Webster Manor.

Her husband, James J. Christian died in 1963.  She leaves one son, James W. Christian and his wife, Ellen-Ann of Charlton; a daughter, Mary M. Christian of Oxford; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.  She was predeceased by a son, Russell T. Christian who was killed in Vietnam, and by a grandson.

Evelyn was born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late William and Loretta (Brown) Brothers and lived in Hudson before moving to Oxford in 1939.  She was a graduate of Hudson High School, Class of 1937.  She retired from Thom McCann in 1979.

She was a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Post #5663 in Oxford.  Additionally, she was a member of the Golden Age Club in Oxford and was a longtime volunteer at the Oxford Senior Center.  She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the Saint Roch's Parish in Oxford.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 1pm in Saint Roch's Church, 334 Main Street, Oxford.  Burial will be in St. Roch Cemetery.  A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com.
