Obituary

Dudley- 1st SGT Donald A. Baker Sr. age 91 died Saturday January 13, 2018 at his home.  He was the husband of the late Barbara M. (Burnell) Baker who died in 2014.  He leaves two sons Donald A. Baker Jr. and his wife Cathy and David M Baker and his wife Karen all of Webster, two daughters, Ann M. Peckham and her husband Robert of TN and Susan B. Gruczka of Putnam, CT, nine grandchildren and Fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Donald had a brother that predeceased him, Norman Baker of Dudley.  He was born in Worcester son of the late Mitchell and Mary R. (LaChance) Baker and lived in Dudley all his life.  He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and then serving in the US Army attaining the rank of First Sergeant, spending a total of 33 years in the US Army National Guard.  He served as the Webster and then Dudley Veterans Agent.  Donald also worked for the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home for 30 plus years.  Donald was a giving caring person to his family, friends and his profession.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV. Don received many citations for his military service.  He was a Deputy Sheriff, Deputy Director Emergency Management in Webster, Former assistant Scout Master, Eucharistic Minister Sacred Heart Church, graduate of Nichols College. The funeral will be held from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 with a Mass at 10 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Webster, burial with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Webster.  Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 from 5PM-7PM a guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may post a condolence or light a candle. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council
