Obituary

Dudley – Mr. George J. Bibeau, age 95, a tireless advocate and community organizer for veterans' affairs, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, September 5, 2024.  He was predeceased by his former wives Magdalen (Gromelski) Bibeau, Margaret Bibeau, and Constance Bibeau.

George was born on November 10, 1928, son of the late Joseph and Rose (Livernois) Bibeau was also predeceased by three siblings Edgar Bibeau of Worcester, Roland Bibeau of Warren, and Doris Allard of Wilmington .  George lived in Southbridge before moving to Dudley 47 years ago.  He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Coast Guard.  George was the Assistant Clerk of the Court at Dudley District Court and worked for the State Ways and Means Committee in Boston.  George was very active in and held leadership roles for various civic organizations and committees, including past Commander of the local VFW post.  He was also a frequent contributor to local news outlets, including Veteran's Corner.

George leaves his sons, Michael Bibeau and his wife Cheryl of Shrewsbury, Mark Bibeau and his partner Ellie Bain of Lancaster, Neal Bibeau and his wife Monica of Gladwyne, PA and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed the loving care of his granddaughter Amber Axtell and her husband Phil in his later years that allowed him to live independently well into his 90's.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral, 48 School Street, Webster beginning at 9:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster.  Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge.  Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, 4 Veterans Way, Webster, MA 01571.  A memorial guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you can post a message of condolence, share a memory and/or light a candle.
