Danielson – Irene M. (Salminen) Burchard, age 87, died Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Her husband, William R. Burchard, died in 1993.  She leaves a son, William G. Burchard of Etna, Maine; two daughters, Karen A. Billington of Charlestown, RI and Janet E. Mailloux of Danielson; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Irene was born in New York, NY, daughter of the late George and Annie (Varamaki) Salminen and lived in New York before moving to Danielson in 1933.  She retired from the Rogers Corporation.  In her retirement, she enjoyed working as a part time greeter at Wal-Mart in Lisbon, CT.  She was a member of the V.F.W. in East Killingly, the Finish American Heritage Society in Canterbury, CT, the Aura Club in Voluntown, CT and she was a lifetime member of the Seaport Sam Camping Club.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Saint John's Lutheran Church, 445 Providence Road, Brooklyn, CT.  There are no calling hours.  In her memory, the family requests random acts of kindness or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.  Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster is directing arrangements.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com.
