Charlston, South Carolina- Joel R. Lyons age 68 died Nov. 17, 2014 after a brief illness at the Medical Univ. of SC Hosp. He leaves 2 daughters, Sunday Marro of Yorktown, VA, and Zoe Lyons of Charlston, SC, and his son Ross K Hartman of Belchertown, MA, also 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Joel was born in Putnam, CT. He is survived by his mother Catherine R. (Gilbert) Lyons of Belchertown. His father predeceased him, Robert T. Lyons in 1985. He also leaves many cousins and relatives in the Putnam, CT area.
He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, serving during the TET offensives. He was a broadcast specialist and basic military journalist. Joel received the Bronze Star for his actions during the TET offensives.
Joel enjoyed a special bond with his daughter Zoe, and loved spending time with her. He enjoyed Butterflies and Butterfly gardening. Movies were also a great passion and had amassed a large collection. He was especially fond of Art, and studied Art at the Corcoran School of Art and design in his favorite city Washington, D.C.
A clebration of life will be held at the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, MA on Saturday, Dec. 20,2014 from 1:00 -3:00 PM. Flowers may be sent or donations to a charity of donors choice in his memory. A guest book is a available at www.shaw-majercik.com
