John H. Gromko, age 71, of Norwich, CT, died Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Mystic Healthcare Rehab & Nursing Center.

John was born on April 19, 1955, in Norwich, CT, son of the late John F. Gromko and Theresa (Tombari) Gromko of Norwich, CT.

John worked for many years at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as a custodian. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching professional wrestling.

John is survived by his mother, Theresa (Tombari) Gromko of Norwich, a brother, James P. Gromko of Taftville; a sister, Theresa A. Gromko of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Nina Gromko Brown of Norwich; several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and a great-nephew. In addition to his father, John F. Gromko, John was predeceased by a brother, Anthony G. Gromko of Norwich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 10 am in Saint Mary’s Church, 70 W. Main Street, Baltic. John will be laid to rest in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Norwich following the mass. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to Easter Seals of New London County, 24 Stott Avenue, Norwich, CT 06360.
