Webster - John P. Lipski, age 85, a life long resident of Webster, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, with his wife, children and grandchildren at his bedside.
He leaves Helen, his best friend and beloved wife of 61 years; a son, John; daughter, Mary and her husband Mike Shipp; five grandchildren, Megan O'Leary and her husband Dennis, Hannah and Patrick Lipski, Jamieson and Stephanie Smith; three great-grandchildren, Tristen, Amber and McKenzie. John was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Stanley and Ted Lipski, also by three sisters, Josephine Cygielnik, Harriet Daviau and Mary Lipski.
He was born on 26 March 1923, the son of the late Albert and Martha (Kaczmarek) Lipski. He attended Saint Joseph Parochial School and Bartlett High School. In 1942, he like many young Americans, enlisted in the United States Army and fought gallantly for 511 days with the 45th Division "Thunderbirds" through Italy, France and Germany. Upon his return home, he met and married Helen Pasay of Southbridge. John graduated in 1949 from Cole Trade in Southbridge and received an Associates Degree in Engineering from Worcester Junior College in 1956.
John worked for 35 years as a draftsman and designer of tooling and machines at Heald Machine in Worcester, retiring in 1984. He sat on the original Webster Zoning Board and was a long time member of the Webster School Committee. He was also a member of Saint Joseph parish.
He was a strong supporter of local and state veterans organizations. He established the Webster-Dudley Polish American Veterans. In addition, he held offices in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Webster Veterans Council.
Visitation at the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster will be Friday, May 23, 2008, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A military funeral will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, with a Mass at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Basilica, Whitcomb Street, Webster. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery, Webster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory can be made to "Friends of Saint Joseph School Fund", Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570
