Obituary

Kerri (Curran) Chalmers, 42, passed away Friday morning, at home, surrounded by her family after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She leaves her husband, Jonathan, and sons Nicholas and Christopher, of Brimfield. Mrs. Chalmers was the youngest child of Carolyn A. (Chamberlain) and George N. Curran, who pre-deceased her. She grew up in Northboro, Mass., and was a 1989 graduate of Algonquin Regional High School.

Mrs. Chalmers was a project engineer with Barr and Barr Construction. One of her many projects was the 2009 addition to Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. Mrs. Chalmers went there for treatment for her first bout with cancer in 2010. The staff was stunned to learn that the small, smiling woman in front of them was the same one they saw ordering construction crews just months earlier wearing a hard hat and work boots.

Always petite at 5'2, Mrs. Chalmers nevertheless quickly earned respect from her crews with her knowledge, judgment, and an upbeat personality backed by a deceptively steely resolve and a tenacious nature. A natural leader, Mrs. Chalmers became the matriarch of her extended family at a young age despite being the youngest in her family.

In addition to her husband and sons, Mrs. Chalmers leaves her sister, Melanie A. Curran and her brother, Shawn G. Curran, of Worcester.  She also leaves her mother-in-law, Veronica Ford of Millbury; her sister and brother-in-laws, Dawn Chalmers of Berlin, Autumn Chagnon of Millbury, Jeff Chalmers of Charlton, J.R. and Melissa Ciummei of Northern Ireland. Mrs. Chalmers also leaves six nieces and nephews: Jennifer M. Bouckaert, Michael J. Bouckaert, Elizabeth Chagnon, Nate Chagnon, Madison Ciummei and Cash Ciummei.

Funeral services will be private. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home in Webster, Mass., will be coordinating. The family wishes to thank the nurses and support staff at Harrington Hospital (Cancer Center) for their kindness. They made a difficult journey bearable. The family also would like to extend their appreciation to the VNA for assisting in this final part of her journey.
