Obituary

Leonard "Red" Smith, 83, died Friday, November 18, 2016, at Beaumont Nursing Home, Northbridge, after several weeks of declining health.

He was born in Milford, June 18, 1933, the son of James R. Smith and Margaret L. (Moran) Smith. He attended St. Marys Academy, Milford and graduated in 1951. Following graduation, he served in the USN and following discharge in 1955, he worked at Draper Corp., Hopedale and later worked for 40 years at Nyacol Corp., Ashland, as a company supervisor.

Red was an avid golfer and long-time member of Hopedale Country Club. He also was a member of the Hopedale Community House Pitch League, a past member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the Italian-American Veterans Organization, Milford. He also served on the Mendon Zoning Board of Appeals.

He is survived by his former wife and long-time friend and companion, Mary Anne Smith of Uxbridge, 6 children, Mark, Jennifer, Michael, Shawn, Claudia and Veronica, several grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Red also leaves a sister, Joan Pannichelli of Hopedale and was predeceased by his older brother, Donald Ted Smith of Seal Beach, CA, who died this past February.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services are private.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hopedale Country Club Scholarship Fund, Hopedale, MA..  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may light a candle or post a message of condolence.
