Mitchell J. Knurowski, age 95, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Cary-Wake Medical Center – Cary, NC. His wife, Kathleen E. (O'Connor) Knurowski died February 4, 2000.  He leaves his son, Joseph M. Knurowski and his wife Sheila of Holly Springs, NC; one grandson Jay; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie A. Bainton; a brother, Edward Knurowski and a sister, Stella Minarik. Mitch was born in Dudley, son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Golanowska) Knurowski and lived in Webster most of his life. He moved to North Carolina in July 2001 to be with family.   He was a World War II, United States Army Veteran.  Mitch was awarded several medals including; two Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart for his wounds in action and the Bronze Star.   He retired in 1982 after working many years for the U.S. Post Office.  He was a member of the PAV, DAV, American Legion and the VFW.  He was dedicated to the Webster Little League, as a coach for the Championship Tigers and worked tirelessly on the construction of McGeary field. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster with a Mass at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster.  Burial, with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery.  Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center of Apex Excellence Fund c/o Rex Hospital Foundation 2500 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 325, Raleigh NC 27607.
