Obituary

Richard L. Paine Sr., 75, of Westminster, MA, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at UMass Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born in Fitchburg, son of the late Leon and Mary (Carter) Paine. He lived in Fitchburg before moving to Westminster in 1955. Dick was an engineer for Foster Grant in Leominster, and had also worked for the Town of Westminster serving as a police officer, fire fighter and dispatcher. He retired as a Captain in the Westminster Fire Department. He earned his Associates Degree in Fire Sciences from Mount Wachusett Community College. Dick leaves his companion of 18 years, Joan Long of Westminster; three children, Richard Paine and his wife, Judy of Gardner, Lisa LaPerle and her husband, David of Winchendon, and Michael Paine of Gardner; a sister, Leanne Wood and her husband, Rod of Southwick, MA; and six grandchildren, Katie Paine, Lucas Paine, Cameron Farrell, Meghan Farrell, Eleanor Paine and Thomas Paine; as well as many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas and David Paine. Private graveside services will be held at Woodside Cemetery in Westminster, MA. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westminster Fire and Rescue, 7 South Sreet, Westminster, MA 01473 in memory of Richard Paine.
