Robert J. Bonneville, 89, of Danielson, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Martha (Kacerik), his daughter, Cynthia and her husband Ed Koziak of Webster, his son David of Orinda, California, and his daughter-in-law, Leslie Winter.  He was predeceased by a son Stephen and a daughter-in-law, Nancy.  Bob and Martha had six grandchildren: Lance and Derek, from Cynthia; Rebecca and Noah, from David; and Adam and Stephanie from Stephen; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Lainey; and two great-great-grandchildren. Bob was born on June 6, 1924 at Day Kimball Hospital, to Avellino A. and Marie Antoinette (DesAutels) Bonneville of Danielson.  He was a graduate of Killingly High School and served with distinction in the US Army Air Corps in World War II, participating in 52 combat missions over Burma and China as a flight engineer and top turret machine gunner on B25H bombers.  His medals included the Distinguished Flying Cross, given for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in flight, the Asia Pacific Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars, and the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight.  He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and received an honorable discharge in 1945. Aside from his family, Bob's passion in life was horticulture, which he excelled at both in business and pleasure.  With Martha, he started Colonial Nursery in 1955, which later became Colonial Landscape and Paving, and finally Colonial Paving.  After retiring as a successful contractor and businessman, he devoted his retirement years to the development of his oriental garden on Morin Avenue in Danielson, which was visited frequently by friends and garden tours.
