Ronald C.
Stone
d. Dec 6, 2013
Ronald "Ron" C. Stone (Sroczenski), age 66, of Webster, died peacefully at home on Friday, December 06, 2013.
He leaves his loving wife of 32 years, Bernadette L. Cookson-Stone of Webster; his parents, Charles P. and Norma A. (Albestki) Sroczenski of Dudley; a sister, Marthafaye Stone and her husband Ed Markevicius of Worcester.
Ron was born in Webster and lived here all his life. He was a United States Army Veteran, of the Vietnam era, having served in Korea & Germany. He enjoyed music, boating, classic cars, traveling and Cape Coral, Fl.
He was a professional musician, entertainer, band leader and M.C. Ron joined his first professional big band, with Ray Stone and his Orchestra at the State-Line Casino in Dudley, at 15 years old. He was the only teenager in a group of men with an average age of over 40. From there he went on to graduate from the U.S. Navy School of Music and on to play in the U.S. Army Band for three years, until his honorable discharge.
After the military, he formed his first quintet to serve the function market (weddings, anniversary's etc.) working popular venues throughout New England. In the late 70's, he formed the Sunshine Duo, and played most major resorts from Florida to Canada. In the mid 80's, he formed the Milestones Big Band and enjoyed great regional success. He must recently offered the Senior Music Program that many enjoyed.
Whether leading the Big Band or one of his smaller groups, Ron has remained true to his roots in the Swing/Jazz idiom, and has worked hard at maintaining the title his friends and associates have bestowed upon him, "New England's King of Swing."
Ron's funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, with a Mass at 11:00 am in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, West Main Street, Dudley. (Please go directly to the church). The Webster-Dudley Veteran's Council will provide military honors following the mass.
