Webster- Sgt. Joseph J. Smith III age 76 died Mon. Oct. 20, 2014 at the Harrington at Hubbard Hospital. He leaves his wife of 51 yrs., Barbara E. (Lefebvre) Smith. He also leaves a brother Brian and his wife Gloria Smith of Webster. A sister predeceased him Marlene Harris of Webster amd a brother who predeceased him, Michael Smith of Thompson, Ct. He also leaves a Aunt, Maryann Dupre of Marlborough and a Uncle, Andrew Smith of Douglas and nieces and nephews and cousins. He was born in Webster son of the late Jospeh J. H. Smith Jr. and Evelyn (Piehl) Smith and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of the 8th grade St. Joseph Grammar School and attended Bartlett High School. Joseph was a US Army Veteran. He retired from the Webster Police Dept., in 1986 as a police Sergeant serving for over 20years. He was a active member of the Redevelopment Authority and a Assessor. He was formerly a constable, Commissioner for the Park's Dept. , served as a town rep for precincts. He was a life member of the TSKK, PAV. He was a member of the Southern MA, Central MA and Eastern Ct. Police Associations. A funeral will be held Fri. Oct. 24, 2014 from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St. Webster with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, Webster and burial in MT. Zion, Cemetery, Webster with police honors.
