Albert LaFleur, late of Quinebaug, CT, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023 at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, MA, after a short battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife Gail LaFleur and two sons, Matthew, and Andrew as well as his sister Pauline, her husband Fred, two nieces and two grandchildren Samuel and Wyatt. He was an idol of the community, having dedicated years of service to the Connecticut Department of Corrections, as well as various community organizations such as Young Marines, Elks, Ham Radio, and Community Fire of Thompson CT.
Albert was born on June 18, 1956 in Webster, MA and attended St. Joseph's and then graduated in 1974 in the masonry dept of Ellis Tech High School in Danielson, CT. He worked at Steven's Linen in Dudley, MA for 13 years, and for 20 years at the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections officer as well as a CPR and first aid instructor. Albert also worked as a security guard at Mapfre. Al was recognized for his heroic acts in the line of duty, receiving many commendations. Al was a kind, loving man who was respected and admired by all who knew him. He was married to Gail on July 18, 1981, and remained committed to her for the rest of his life. He was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT for 25 years. In addition, he was nationally recognized as a volunteer young marine leader and was an active member of the Elks. He enjoyed socializing with friends at local places and was an avid enthusiast for the ham radio and served a brief time working with the town of Thompson Emergency operations teams, he also spent his free time going to fairs and helping educate others as well as coordinating the communications for such local events.
A Funeral Mass will be held in honor of Albert at St. Joseph’s Church in North Grosvenordale on September 30, 2023 at 10am, please meet at the church. Calling hours will be held on September 29, 2023 at Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St. Webster MA from 5-7pm. In memory of Al we ask everyone to pay it forward with random acts of kindness like he was always willing to do and please share your stories of kindness on his memorialized Facebook page to share with our family and friends. One act of kindness from each of us can grow into making the world a better place. In Lieu of flowers please bring a canned good for the food bank donation to St. Joseph’s or TEIG.
