North Grosvenordale - Mr. Clarence J. Whittemore, age 94, beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Summers) Whittemore, died Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.
Clarence was born on November 6, 1929, son of the late Rogers and Lucy (Pickett) Whittemore and he lived in the Putnam-North Grosvenordale area all his life, wintering in Florida. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from the United States Postal Service, serving as Post Master of North Grosvenordale. Clarence enjoyed camping and traveling. He was an avid stock trader.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clarence was predeceased by his brother, Roger S. Whittemore of Putnam and by two sisters, Edith Columbia of Putnam and Glenna Erickson, also of Putnam. He is survived by his sister, Mabel Burke of Putnam; several nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held in Grove Street Cemetery in Putnam. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Clarence can be made to Saint Jude's Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place • Memphis, TN 38105. A memorial guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may post a message of condolence, share a memory and/or light a candle in memory of Clarence. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster has been entrusted with arrangements for Clarence.
