David Liberty Obituary

Dudley – David Liberty, 68, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

David was born in Whitinsville, MA on November 11, 1952, son of the late Eli and Beatrice (Bourassa) Liberty; he recently retired from A. Duie Pyle Trucking Company for whom he worked for twenty-four years, prior to that, David worked for Pillsbury, and N&D Trucking.  David’s most recent years at work were his favorite, he greatly enjoyed the opportunity to teach his skills to the next generation of truckers.  David was a hardworking man his entire life, dedicated to providing for his dear wife and beautiful family. Anyone who knew David well or perhaps only met him once, quickly learned that he had the “gift of gab”, he loved to talk, and talk, and talk; he especially enjoyed telling those corny jokes of his.  David found pleasure in the simple things of life, spending time outdoors, fishing, riding his tractors, and tending to his yard, but he especially loved bicycle riding, in fact, he went riding for 600 miles in 2001, and 100 miles in 2003 and 2004 during the Flattest Century Fundraiser.

David will be deeply missed by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of nearly fifty years, Lorna (Burbo) Liberty of Dudley; his daughters Christina Fontaine and her spouse Dean of North Grosvenordale, CT, and Lisa Liberty and her spouse Kristen of Thompson, CT; his brothers Ronald Liberty of Southbridge and Daniel Liberty of Whitinsville; his sister Joan Lamontagne of Uxbridge; his grandchildren Chase Hailey Fontaine and Glen David Fontaine of North Grosvenordale; he also leaves many nieces, nephews relatives, and dear friends.

At David’s request, there will be no calling hours and all services will be held privately at the convenience of his family who he loved so very much and fought so hard to remain with as long as he possibly could.

David’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Tarah and Nancy from the VNA Care and Hospice Network for their dedication and loving care they provided during the final stages of David’s life.

Also at David’s request, please do not send flowers, instead, kindly assist the family with final expenses by sending a memorial contribution to Lorna Liberty, 55 Baker Pond Road Dudley, MA 01571.
