Plainfield/Central Village - Ernest was born in Oneco, CT, on March 5, 1934, son of the late Francis X. and Anna M. (Vezina) Coutu and lived in the Plainfield/Central Village area his entire life. He worked in various textile mills, Royal Metal/InterRoyal, Intermark and last as a crossing guard for the Plainfield School system. He also worked as a bartender at the B&E Grill. He was a life member of the PACC.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 46 years, Estelle L. (Comire) Coutu of Central Village; sons David (Brenda) Coutu of Danielson; John (Mary) Coutu of Central Village; Michael (Leslie) Coutu of Sterling; step-son Paul (Denise) Kudelsky of Danielson; step-daughters Beth Orlando of San Diego and Lynn (Ernest) Valentine of Johnston, RI; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also, special friends Bill, Matt and Mike & Lori. He was affectionately known as Pepere and hot rod.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on August 30, 2024, at 10:30AM in St. John the Apostle Church, 10 Railroad Ave., Plainfield. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Plainfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Day Kimball Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeast Connecticut.
