Webster – Harry Jordanoglou, age 92, beloved husband of Catherine Jordanoglou, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
Harry was born in Fotolivos, Greece, son of the late Anestis and Maria (Tziziroglou) Jordanoglou and lived in the Dudley-Webster area for the past 67 years. A restaurateur, he owned and operated Harry’s Pizzeria and Deli and Sandy’s Restaurant in Webster, MA as well as the Sandpiper Restaurant in Westerly, RI. He was a lifelong member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, where he was a past President of the Church Council, a member of AHEPA, and served as the first chairman of the annual Greek Festival. He was a recipient of the Bishop Methodios Ministry Award.
At 15, Harry lost his father during the Greek Civil War and, as the eldest of five, had to take on responsibilities beyond his years to help run the family farm. Sponsored by his beloved uncle and aunt, Cosmas and Stella Hadjoglou, he came to America in 1956 at the age of 25. He married his beloved wife Catherine (Zacopoulos) Jordanoglou 1 year later.
Harry was a believer in the possibility of things. He believed that anyone, with effort and self-sacrifice could set out to do and achieve anything and believed that with God’s help and grace, they would. He believed in sacrificing himself for others and would always lend a hand to anyone who asked. He was deeply passionate for his family, friends and faith. He was a positive person and loved the people he knew.
Harry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine (Zacopoulos) Jordanoglou, whom he married in 1957, of Webster; a son, Anestis Jordanoglou and his wife, Evis, of Dudley, MA; a daughter, Sandy (Alexandra) Sanderson and her husband Ron of Wake Forest, NC; three grandchildren, Adam Sanderson of Wake Forest, NC, Harrison Jordanoglou of Dudley, MA and Maria Jordanoglou of Dudley, MA, his sister Kyriaki (Noula) Giantsios of Satellite Beach, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Nicholas, Jordan and John Jordanoglou of Greece.
The Jordanoglou family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Summit Eldercare in Webster, MA particularly, Mary Burke who provided him with exceptional medical care during his time there. They also would like to thank the aids who assisted him with all his daily care, especially Pam and Aimee who put a smile on his face every day.
