Joan M. McHugh (Joanie)
1945-2025
Thompson - Joan M. (Sztukowski) McHugh, 79, of Thompson Rd., passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, January 2, 2025, at UMASS University Hospital. Born in New London, CT, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Stephanie Sztukowski.
Mrs. McHugh was a graduate of the former St Joseph School in North Grosvenordale. She played basketball there and sang in the choir. She worked as a banker for Citizen·National Bank for over thirty years. She made many friends at the bank and enjoyed their lunches together. She also went on many trips over the years. Argentina, Switzerland, Germany and Canada were some of the places that she enjoyed.
Joan was a member of the Farm Bureau and enjoyed working on her beloved Green Hill Farm. She spent time happily tending to all of her flowers, plants, shrubs and landscaping. But, above all she cherished the quality time that she spent with her two grandchildren, Chance and Hadley. She loved going to their sporting events, listening to music and playing games with them.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Heaphy and her husband Shawn of Charlton; her grandchildren, Chance Gregory Heaphy and Hadley Cecile-Marie Heaphy of Charlton. She was predeceased by a son, Shawn McHugh.
