John H. Silvestri, age 85 of Webster, passed away on December 1, 2016, at Webster Manor Nursing Home.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose (Polletta) Silvestri; two sons, Vincent Silvestri and his wife Kathy, Ronald Silvestri; daughter, Patricia Latuga; five grandchildren, Jerry Silvestri and his wife Julie, Amy Van Minos and her husband Josh, Tyson Latuga, Robert Silvestri and his fiance Lauren, Lachelle Silvestri and Tyler Walker; seven great-grandchildren, Devin Silvestri, Tayler Silvestri, Jordyn Minos, Jocelyn Minos, Adryianna Latuga, Jacob Latuga and Marilyn Silvestri; many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Robert Silvestri and by a sister, Sophie Wilga.

John was born in Malden, MA, son of the late John and Carmella (Piravano) Silvestri.  

John was a caring and loving husband and father, loved the holidays, sharing with his family all together.  He was also a stern military man starting with the National Guard and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. at age 19. He fought in the Korean War as a combat solider, where he earned the well deserved Purple Heart medal.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #184, VFW, and was a Past Commander of the DAV Post #101, in Southbridge, MA.  Additionally, he was a member of the DAV #53, Webster, MCL, Worcester.  Above all, he put his heart into being on the rifle team at military funerals served by the Webster-Dudley Veteran's Council.  In 2010, he was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day festivities.  Now, as he enters God's House, he will guard with his life.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, beginning at 9:00 am in the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Louis Church, Lake Street, Webster.  Burial, with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veteran's Council will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley.  Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday, December 5, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Those wishing to make a donation in John's memory may do so to the Webster-Dudley Veteran's Council, Veterans Way, Webster, MA 01570 or the Saint Louis Endowment Fund, Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may light a candle or post a message of condolence.
