Webster - Robert Steele, aged 80, of Webster and formerly of Stainton, UK, passed away on 26th March, 2025 at home with his family by his side. He leaves his sister, Jane Gogolinski and her husband, John, of Webster and several cousins and friends in the UK. He also leaves his brother-in-law's family, Lisa and Keith Tucci, Karen and Ted Germond and Deborah and Adam Boyer and their families.
Robert was born in Lancaster, UK on 3rd April, 1944, son of Dorothy (Meadowcroft) and Edmund Bainbridge Steele and spent most of his life in England, moving to the USA upon the death of his mother to live with his sister and brother-on-law.
Robert attended Newton Rigg Agricultural College in the UK and afterwards worked on a local farm for a while. He also worked for British Gypsum for many years and at a luxury hotel in the English Lake District.
Robert was a quiet man with a gentle soul, a kind and generous heart and a good sense of humor. He loved to walk on a regular basis and enjoyed going to daily Mass and getting together with friends at McDonald's. He particularly liked cappuccinos, clam chowder and a coke with no ice at the casino and enjoyed going on bus trips and rides on the Indian Princess.
He always wanted to be a long-distance truck driver and was especially interested in car transporters. While living in England, he made many happy trips with a truck-driver friend. Robert also enjoyed watching news programs, wrestling matches and Walker, Texas Ranger on TV. He volunteered to deliver Meals-on-Wheels for several years and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation as a 2012 George Wild award nominee. Robert will be sorely missed by his family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster at 11:00AM. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery.
