West Boylston - Judith A. Goodnow passed on to glory at the age of 83. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Herman "Bud" Maddocks and Katherine (Hoyt) Maddocks ,and lived her entire life in West Boylston.
She leaves two sisters, Vida Farrar- Westboro, Susan Gainley-Hardwick, and a brother Roger Maddocks-Colorado. She attended Wachusett Regional H. S. and graduated from West Boylston High School, lettering in basketball and cheerleading. She worked as an executive secretary at the former State Mutual Life Insurance Company for a number of years. Judy was married to Robert Goodnow and would be celebrating their Golden Anniversary Lord willing in 2024. They were devoted to each other, and together raised 8 children; Jeffrey Crane - Worcester, Charles Crane and Cynthia Farrar- West Boylston, and her step children; Scott and Chris Goodnow - Princeton, Darryn – West Boylston, Daniel - Norwalk, Conn, and Douglas - East Hadley. Judy has been blessed with 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Besides loving and caring for such a large family, Judy was elected to the West Boylston School Committee for 12 years, and also served on the Regionalization Committee. She fulfilled a dream despite much sacrifice and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Assumption College. She also graduated from Word of Life Florida Bible Institute, and received a degree in Childhood Education from Quinsigamond College, which led to her operating a successful day care business from her home. Judy then joined her "retired" husband Bob as they devoted 19 years of volunteer service to the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US National Park, US Bureau of Land Management, Sandy Cove Christian Conference Center, and Word of Life Conference Center in Hudson Florida. She enjoyed being outdoors with Bob, whether it be hiking, camping, biking, playing tennis, and flower gardening. She was an avid Christian and vowed with Bob to finish strong in His service. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church in Asheville N. Carolina, Beacon Baptist Church in Hudson Fl and also a member of the former Bethlehem Baptist Church in West Boylston, where she served as church secretary, Awana club leader, children’s choir director, church pianist and bible study teacher for many years. Judy was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang in the choir of all three churches. The Lord has welcomed her with His open arms, while declaring to he multitudes, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
