Leonard Montione Obituary

Shrewsbury, MA – Leonard P. Montione, 78, died on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at home after fighting a long illness.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Selesky) Montione of Avoca, PA; three children: Robert J. Montione and his wife Silvana of Oxford; Leonard C. Montione of Sutton; Dana Ann Montione of Dudley; his five grandchildren: Olivia, Alexander, Kristina, Thomas, and Emily.  Mr. Montione is also survived by one brother, Charles and family of FL, and one sister Mary and family of MA; he is predeceased by his brother Anthony.

He was born in Carbondale, PA the son of the late Sam and Theresa Montione of Hughestown, PA and lived in Scranton, PA, Barberton, OH, Hackettstown, NJ, Danvers, MA, and Marshalltown IA prior to moving to Shrewsbury, MA 39 years ago.  Mr. Montione graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, PA in 1960, received an engineering degree from the Pennsylvania State University, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Akron, and a master’s degree in international marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University, graduating cum laude.

He worked as engineer, project manager, contract manager, director and vice president for major construction corporations developing proto-type equipment and fossil fuel steam generators for commercial and navy nuclear projects where he maintained secret and confidential government clearances.  He was responsible for projects valued over $50 million.  Later, after moving to Shrewsbury in 1985 Mr. Montione, purchased Elastic Products, became president, and founded EPV Plastics Corp, Nordic Shield Plastics Corp and GRF, Inc all specializing in different type plastic films.  Afterward he designed and built EPV Industrial Complex, a 52,000 SF building to house hi then new founded companies.

While living in Danvers, MA he was on the Board of Directors for North Shore Children’s Hospital and later while in Shrewsbury became a committee member in helping to build a gymnasium for Saint Joseph’s School located in Webster, MA.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday May 29, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Basilica located at 53 Whitcomb Street Webster, MA.  Burial will be private. There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph School Fund, 47 Whitcomb Street Webster, MA 01570.
