Mark Greene, 61, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from a heart attack.
Mark was born March 29, 1959, in Worcester, MA, to the late Bruce and Gertrude Greene of Spencer, MA.
He graduated in 1977 from David Prouty High School in Spencer, and from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1981 with a Masters degree in education.
A devoted educator for over 30 years, Mark primarily taught tech ed for the past 21 years at East Longmeadow (MA) High School. He also taught business and marketing classes, along with graphics, pre-engineering, and mechanical drawing.
Mark gave tours at the historical Storrowton Village every fall at The Big E for the last 30 years, a tradition he shared with his wife, Meredith. Mark was a longtime member of the Springfield Naturalists’ Club. A cyclist with the Springfield Cyclonauts Club during the 1990s, he later enjoyed long backroad rides with his buddies in the Stafford area for the past 20 years.
Mark was a Volvo and sport bike enthusiast who renovated countless old cars, collected and rebuilt bicycles, and loved working on and riding motorcycles with his son, Tom. He also could fix just about anything, and if he didn’t know how to, he would quickly learn.
A music aficionado, Mark shared a passion for indie and alternative rock bands with his daughter, Emily, always looking for new bands to tell each other about. Ever curious, Mark was a voracious reader of and knowledgeable about many topics.
Mark is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 40 years, Meredith; his daughter, Emily, and her fiancé, Ryan, of Marlborough, MA; and his son, Thomas, actively serving in the US Air Force and stationed in South Korea. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Comstock, and her husband, Nelson, of West Brookfield, MA; his sister-in-law, Stella Trudeau, of East Brookfield, MA; his sister-in-law, Rosemary Scrivens, of Worcester, MA; his brother-in-law, Paul Scrivens, and his wife, Kerry, of Ludington, MI; and nieces, Renee White, and her husband, Rob, of West Brookfield, MA and Darcie Trudeau of East Brookfield, MA; and nephew Jason Cook-Troynel of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Mark was predeceased by his brother, Robert Trudeau.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 16, between 3:00-7:00 p.m. to honor Mark at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA, 01028. Remembrances by the family and friends will start at 6:00 p.m.
