Nancy J. (Carpenter) Smith
1952-2025

 

Danielson – Nancy J. (Carpenter) Smith, age 72, beloved wife of the late David Smith, died Saturday, February 8, 2025, at home with her family by her side.

She was born in Putnam on February 19, 1952, the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Dissosway) Carpenter.  She was a graduate of Putnam High School, Class of 1970.  David and Nancy were married on July 1, 1972, in Putnam.  She worked part time at Danielson Curtain.  After high school she worked in the main office of Hale Manufacturing in Putnam.  While working there she took several business courses at night at Dudley Hall Career Institute.  She also worked in the Hale Manufacturing warehouse in Attawaugan.  Upon leaving Hale’s, she became a certified nursing assistant at Villa Maria Convalescent Home in Plainfield, a position she held for 22 years.  She then decided to pursue yet another career working for Xtra Mart in Brooklyn, CT.  She started as a 3rd shift cashier, moving to the day shift assistant manager, then becoming a manager trainee.  She held this position until her retirement in March 2015.

Nancy was a member of the YMCA in Putnam and enjoyed her exercise and swimming classes with her friends. 

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, with whom she made her home; her son Eric and his wife Joy (Dyson) Smith.  She is also survived by her grandson, Jackson Ellsworth who was the light of her life.  She loved watching him play sports and helping him with his schoolwork.  Nancy is also survived by her brother, David Carpenter and his wife Jeanne of Mississippi, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.  In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Barbara (Carpenter) Remington in 2010.
