Hi Kim, I am very sorry to hear about your mom. While I never met your mom in person, I still feel like I got to know her from sitting in your health class and learning about her work with the hospital mercy ships and other stories you shared about your family. I think she is a very special person and you were lucky to have her as a mom. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Again I am very sorry to hear the news about your mom.

VWAM was privileged to have Rhea volunteer twice for one of our Vietnam humanitarian medical mission teams. She worked tirelessly in triage, working-up patients to see our patient examiners and despite the heat and humidity, never a complaint. That smile and friendly disposition never left her even though her days began before sunrise and never ended until the sun was about to set. She was a Vietnam vet, and when the other veterans learned she was a nurse during the war, they treated her with the greatest respect. We will miss her participation, spirit, attitude and grace. What a grand lady, a wonderful person. Sadness fills our hearts today, but one day, we will meet again...Chuck Ward, Executive Director, Vets With A Mission

Rest in Peace Rhea. To Kim, Chris, Ruth, and Roni you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am very sad to hear of Rhea's passing. Over the last few days I have thought of more than a few memories of her. Being a little boy and coming over to play with the kids, pretending we were driving the Orange VW van Rhea & Ken had at the time. She always made us kids feel special, as I got older it was always so nice to get to see her. She still made you feel special. Wanting to know what was going on in our lives at the time. Not just asking to ask, but asking because she really cared and wanted to know. I remember when I was 22 I needed foot surgery, and the morning of she saw me on the list @ DKH and personally made it so she was in my OR. It made me feel so much at ease knowing she was there and looking after me. I have never forgotten that, and I never will. That is just who Rhea was. One of the great Ladies you can hope to meet. Never mind being lucky enough to call her your family. Rhea you will be missed by my Mom I Know, as well as the rest of us your family. I also Thank you for your service to our Country, to our community, to our world really. Now is your time to rest. God bless. Love, Ken

Thank you for a life dedicated to serving others. A very impressive and noble life indeed . My heartfelt sorrow to your family and friends. Guy de Maupassant, French poet and writer once wrote “You have never lived until you have almost died, and for those who fight for it, life has a flavor the protected will never know”...you have experienced the flavor of which he wrote...serving honorably in war and then in peace. Your legacy will live in those you have met along your journey. Rest in peace.
