Rita M. (Zmetra) Gajewski

Dudley - Rita M. (Zmetra) Gajewski, age 90, died Wednesday evening, October 23, 2024, at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge. 

Rita was born in Dudley, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Jedrzynski) Zmetra and lived in Dudley all her life.  She previously worked at Commerce Insurance in the mailroom and was a cafeteria worker for the Dudley school system.

Rita enjoyed playing cards for nickels and bingo.  She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  She enjoyed watching game shows on television.

Rita was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Edmund W. “Deka” Gajewski, who died on July 29, 2009.  She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Floria of Webster, Donna Fortin, and Doreen Pelletier and her husband Andrew of Dudley; five grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Courtney, Kyleigh, Shaelyn, Daniele and her husband James, and Emily; three great-grandchildren, Jameson, Isla and Kinley; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Baby.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster beginning at 9:15 am.  A Mass of Christian burial at 10 am in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street, Dudley.  Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery, Webster.  Calling hours will be Monday, October 28. 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may post message of condolence, share a memory and/or light a candle.
