Robert P. Nugent Jr. 71 of Worcester, Ma. formerly of Hingham, Ma. passed away after a long illness on February 17 surrounded by his loving family and his devoted wife of 44 years Marie McFadden. He leaves his mother Margaret Coefield Nugent of Martha's Vineyard, his brothers Thomas Nugent of Arlington Ma. and John Nugent of Martha's Vineyard, his sister Gail Vaughan of Cohasset, Ma. and many nieces and nephews. His father Robert P Nugent, Sr and his sister Anne Nugent Goodman predeceased him.

Robert graduated from the Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree Ma. and attended Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pipefitters local 537 in Dorchester.

Robert was an avid sailor and sailed his Francis 26 foot sloop from Boston to the Bahamas in a single handed journey. He was a cross country runner at Archbishop Williams, a member of the crew team at Villanova, and loved to ski in his youth. One of his finest qualities was his thirst for knowledge, and his curiosity about everything. He was truly a life long learner, and an inspiration to his wife Marie to continue to learn right along with him. He had a strong work ethic, was full of determination when he started a project, and developed a small commercial building in South Boston doing much of the renovation work himself. He had many practical skills. He had an adventurous personality, and was a kind and gentle soul. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

There will be no services at this time for Robert, but his ashes will be scattered at sea where he loved to be in a memorial service to be held sometime during the summer months.  Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster has been entrusted with arrangements.  A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where may light a candle or post a condolence message.
