In Loving Memory of Rosa Rodríguez-Castro
August 3, 1922 – March 11, 2025
With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we honor the memory of our beloved Rosa Rodríguez-Castro, affectionately known as "Abuelita." She was more than just a grandmother—she was the heart and soul of our family, a beacon of warmth, faith, and unconditional love.
In the early hours of Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the remarkable age of 102, Abuelita Rosa peacefully entered eternal rest, surrounded by the love of her cherished family. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Nilda Elena García, whose unwavering love and care over the past seven years were a testament to the deep bond between mother and child. She also leaves behind her sons, Efraín Lugo and Julio Lugo, while she reunites in heaven with her youngest, Rafael Lugo.
Abuelita Rosa's love extended through generations, as she was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren, with many more little blessings on the way. Each of them carries a part of her spirit—her kindness, her faith, and her devotion to family.
A faithful servant of God, Rosa lived her life with a deep and unwavering commitment to her Pentecostal Christian beliefs. Her voice would often fill her home with the sweet sounds of "coritos"—hymns of praise and worship—sung joyfully as she prepared meals for all who entered her loving home. Her kitchen was a sacred space, a place where laughter, love, and the rich traditions of our Puerto Rican heritage flourished. There was no greater joy for her than gathering family and friends around the table, nourishing both their bodies and their spirits.
Her home was a sanctuary—the place where everyone gathered. It was where traditions were passed down, where faith was strengthened, and where love was always in abundance. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, and her selflessness was the foundation upon which generations have been built.
Rosa was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also a loving wife. She shared many years of companionship with her late husbands, Eugenio Lugo and later José Castro, both of whom surely awaited her with open arms in eternity.
Above all, Rosa Rodríguez-Castro lived for the Lord. In times of joy and hardship alike, she remained steadfast in her faith, embodying God’s grace, love, and mercy in everything she did. She was a living testament to the power of faith, a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we take comfort in knowing that she now rests in the embrace of our Heavenly Father. While we grieve the void she leaves behind, heaven rejoices in gaining one of its most faithful souls.
Abuelita, we will love you forever. You will always be in our hearts, our prayers, and our cherished memories. Until we meet again, may you rest in God’s eternal peace.
