Webster - Stephen Raymond Bardy of Webster, MA. died July 18, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Edith Penkala in 2013. He is survived by his son, Stephen Edward Bardy of Dudley, MA. and his sister Gloria Brown of Woodstock, CT. He was born in Webster, MA., the son of Stephen Edward Bardy and Jessie (Pietrewicz) Bardy and he lived there his whole life. He was predeceased by his brother Edmund Bardy and his sister Barbara Lavallee.
He worked primarily as a truck driver for Wager’s Express in Dudley, MA. and Carter Rice in Worcester, MA. He took great interest in maintaining his property, and his main hobby was his intense interest in wood burning to heat his house. Every year he would be preparing for next year’s Winter by cutting and splitting wood from trees he felled on his property, and stacking his beloved wood pile. Living like they did “in the old country” gave him a great deal of happiness. Brush burning every Spring was a rite of passage for his son Stephen, who continues this tradition to this day.
He served in the Navy from 1951-1955, spending much of his time in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
The funeral will be held at St. Louis Church in Webster on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Garden of Peace. There will be no calling hours, please go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA. 02130. His wife Edith was a lifelong animal lover who donated regularly to animal causes. He continued this monthly since her passing in 2013.
