Webster - Vasiligia (Vassy) Tanko, age 91, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital after a stay at Holy Trinity Nursing Home, Worcester. She lived her whole life in Webster surrounded by family and friends.
Vassy graduated from Bartlett High School and worked at Cranston Print Works for 45 years. She was well respected by co-workers and customers alike, and she was always grateful for the many years she worked there. She was predeceased by her parents Dimo and Goga (Tarse) Tanko, her brother Arthur (Nasi) Tanko and his wife Angelina (LaConte) Tanko, and her nephew, Sam Tanko.
Vassy is survived by her nieces, Virginia DiDonato of Dudley, Viola Floru of North Smithfield, RI, and Sam’s wife Cleo Tanko of Sarasota, FL. She leaves nine great nieces and nephews and thirteen great-great nieces and nephews, whom she always lovingly referred to as “My Greats". Vassy loved her family and enjoyed hosting many holidays. She was famous for her pitas, pecan rolls, and banana bread. She had a sense of humor, was never shy to share her thoughts and opinions, and was as generous as they come.
Vassy was a member of St. Michael Romanian Orthodox Church of Southbridge. Her faith was most important to her and truly guided her life. She also volunteered and had many friends at Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Webster. She helped in many ways at both parishes, which brought her much joy. As a devoted follower of our Lord, Jesus Christ, her most cherished times were in church celebrating Liturgy.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, MA, with calling hours from 9 AM – 10:15 AM followed by a Funeral Service at St. Michael Romanian Orthodox Church, 16 Romanian Ave., Southbridge at 11 AM.
